2 Chip Foose Cars Win Fan Vote for Revell Model Kit Production
July 14, 2015
ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL (July 14, 2015) – With more than 10,000 votes cast in a survey to determine which of seven Chip Foose custom car designs will be brought to market as all-new Revell scale models, the winners are Foose’s iconic 1956 Ford F100 Pickup & 1948 "Eldorod” Cadillac. Both vehicles will be released by Revell as all new model kits in late 2016, providing the market’s first authentic scale replicas of the two winners.
The 1956 Ford F100 Pickup – a Foose family heirloom that was completely rebuilt and restyled in 2005 as part of Foose’s "Overhaulin” television show – took top honors with 33% of the vote. The 1948 "Eldorod” Cadillac – a blockbuster hit at the 2012 SEMA show for its custom deep blue paint job, chrome details and hot-rod attitude – captured second place with 19% of the vote.
The other candidates were Foose’s 1934 Ford Mercury-inspired "Stallion,” 1935 "Grand Master” Chevy Master Sedan, 1936 "Impression” Ford based roadster, 1965 "Impostor” Impala, and his legendary Hemisfear custom supercar coupe. All seven are considered masterpieces and most have won major industry awards, including prestigious Detroit Autorama Ridler and America’s Most Beautiful Roadster (AMBR) honors.
"Going into this, I had no idea what the results would be because – to me – each one of these cars is a favorite,” Foose said. "As it turned out, fans wound up choosing two completely different kinds of vehicles – a pickup and a Cadillac – and that will make for great variety in model building when these kits hit store shelves.”
"The fact that this survey generated more than 10,000 votes demonstrates how passionate people are about both Chip’s custom car designs and model car building,” said Brian Eble, Vice President of Marketing, Mass Market, for Revell parent company Hobbico. "These two vehicles will be strong additions to our line of Foose-inspired scale models.”
The two winning vehicles will be released under an exclusive three-year licensing agreement that will also include four re-issues of earlier Revell model kits incorporating Foose’s personal design modifications. The series – beginning release in Q4 2015 – will include full glue and paint model kits as well as Revell’s first Foose pre-decorated model glue kits, complete with Foose-created paint schemes, wheel designs and special Foose renderings used only on the Revell box art.
The new scale models will add to a Foose collection that also includes Foose 1964 and 1965 Chevy Impala, 1967 Dodge Charger 426 HEMI, 1967 Dodge Coronet, 1969 Camaro Z/28 and 1968 Pontiac Firebird 400 Ram Air model kits.
